Quiz 5 Posted

The last of the requirements for the Linear Circuits course has been posted. It has been a pleasure to read the forums and to see how many people were dedicated to working through this material. I am very grateful to those of you who diligently answered questions on the forum. We have made modifications as we went along based on suggestions that we received. Please take a moment to complete the End of Course Survey to help us make further improvements. This course will be offered again in January 2014 and then again in August 2014. We will be offering a follow-on course on Electronics in October 2014. Hope to see you again! Dr. Bonnie Ferri

Week 8 Assignments

Week 8 assignments have been posted and Quiz 4 has been posted. We extended the deadline for completing Quiz 4 since we wanted to give you a full week to finish it. This particular quiz is a bit messy due to all of the complex variable arithmetic. Have a good calculator for doing complex arithmetic or use an Internet source.

A few of you did the quiz within a couple of hours of us posting it, but we did have to make a change to it in order to give you 2 chances to complete it. If you were one of the few who completed the quiz already, check to see if your score is still valid. If not, then please retake it.

Please be sure to complete the end of week surveys. We appreciate your feedback!

This module relies heavily on complex numbers. If you have difficulty with the in-video quizzes or homework, then please watch the extra lessons that give reviews on complex numbers.

The quiz for Module 3 is due by Thursday night, 9/26,and the homework for Week 5 is due by Sunday night, 9/22.

Please make sure that you do the survey for Week 5. We really appreciate the feedback. We have been modifying and improving the format of this course as the weeks progress based on feedback that we have been receiving. Thanks to all of you who have given suggestions.

Late days policy and problem 2-111 grading

We allotted each student 10 "late days" to use on quizzes or homework. Late days will remove any grade penalty incurred on assignment submissions made after the due date (but before the hard deadline). To apply late days, on the assignment page, click the "Apply late days" button beside one of your submitted assignments. On the next page, you'll be prompted to specify the number of late days that you'd like to apply.

Some of you had problems with the grading of Problem 2-111. So we excluded it from the calculations of the final course grade and instead assigned a score of 1 for everyone in its place.

Week 3

Look at the Week 3 schedule to see what needs to be done this next week. This includes Homework 3 by next Sunday night. (Homework 2 is due on September 1). The on-campus students are doing Lab 2 in class this week. This lab is optional for you, but I will make some edits on it this week to clarify some points.

myDAQ on Mac OS

This announcement is only relevant to those who are choosing to purchase the myDAQ board to do the labs. As a reminder, labs are entirely optional, and are not part of your grade.

The myDAQ software requires Windows. We recommend using Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac. Boot Camp will install Windows alongside Mac OS, allowing you to choose which operating system you would like to boot. Other virtualization software may work, but we have already received reports of people having difficulty getting the myDAQ to work with VirtualBox, etc.
You can launch Boot Camp setup under Applications --> Utilities --> Boot Camp Assistant. For more information, please see: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/6C8810E7E3712358862579C800528432

Welcome to Linear Circuits!

The course is live now and you are welcome to start your activities for the class. Please look at the menu on the left of the course home page. Things to examine now:
1) The Syllabus gives the schedule for the entire course, but you should pay most attention to the Weekly Schedules. These schedules list the Video Lessons and the associated homework and quizzes that need to be completed that week.
2) The weekly assignments can be found from links in the Weekly Schedule and in the direct links in the menu on the left. Start watching the videos immediately that are assigned for the first week. You may want to print the handouts for the lecture slides and use this as a guide to take notes for the lectures.
3) This online course is a required part of the Georgia Tech course ECE 3710. Students in that course are required to do labs, which are included as a courtesy to the online students who may want to complete them as an option. The labs are not included in the Coursera grade and are not required.
4) Please use the forum to ask and answer questions from others. We want to encourage a community of learners among students in this course. You will need to sign into the Piazza site to begin using it.
5) The surveys are part of a research program testing the effectiveness of this course. We will use the results to improve the course for the next offering. We thank you very much for your time and effort in completing the surveys. Your opinion matters to us!
