With this volume, we conclude the project of re-issuing all of James H. Schmitz's stories set in his Federation of the Hub universe. I hope the readers have enjoyed these stories as much as I always have.
Happily, the series has met with a very favorable response from the audience. As a result, Baen Books has decided to re-issue more of Schmitz's writings.
Two more volumes are planned:
In the next, we will turn to the other common setting, besides the Hub, which James Schmitz used for several of his stories. That is his universe of the Confederacy of Vega, in which he wrote four long stories: "Agent of Vega," "The Illusionists," "The Truth About Cushgar," and "The Second Night of Summer." Taken as a whole, that quartet is the length of a novel, and we will be re-issuing it in its entirety.
Along with the Vega stories, we will also include a number of the best Schmitz stories which are not part of any common setting. That includes such relatively well-known tales as "The Custodians," as well as some excellent stories which have never been re-issued since their original magazine publication back in the 50s and 60s: "Beacon to Elsewhere," "Gone Fishing," and "The End of the Line," just to name some of them.
We will then re-issue, in a separate volume, Schmitz's longest novel and best-known work, The Witches of Karres.
So if you've enjoyed the Hub stories, don't go away. There's plenty more of James H. Schmitz to come.
